the fly and the mosquito joke..

now now.. calm down.. i know you're all eager to hear the most fantastically funny joke.. be patient.. all in due time.. first, i shall tell the great weekend i had! again, my mission was food! open houses were the main attraction this time.. mmm... food, glorious food.. this was the first raya i celebrated in 2 years! so, nothing was going to stop me from going.. be it hail or storm, nothing will get in my way.. not even my exams, which i was going to sit on the very monday.. ':p

on the very night i arrived, the heavens opened up to me.. there was an open house already that evening! i changed and was eager to go out the door towards the smell of good ol' hari raya food. i couldn't stop smiling.. i soaked in the wonderful atmosphere.. colourful traditonal clothes.. well lit beautiful homes.. food that could feed the whole africa.. people talking to eachother having a pleasent time.. hari raya, there's nothing like it.. how i missed it so..

after stomachs were full and very satisfied, we went back and rested both mind and tummy. regaining energy was very important for the following day was to be a really long day.. since the night before, i didn't eat a thing.. i calmed my growling tummy.. "be patient.. you won't be empty for too long.." i reassured.. 3 houses were to be visited that day.. food, glorious food..
slowly and in tiny portion.. that is the golden rule in 'all-you-can-eat buffet'. same rules applies with open houses. slowly and in tiny portions were my strategy all throughout the endless eating bonanza. i had almost everything that were on the table (excluding cutlery and the host's flower decorations), i had a try at everything! mmmm...

half way through the third house, my stomach had enough and called it quits.. ofcourse, after a full stomach, the eyelids stops funtioning.. man, was i sleepy.. and the 6-hours of walking around had a factor in it as well.. after when we called it a night or rayaing, we went back.. but the night was far from over.. iffah, amy, nadiah, fez and i went out for a movie. saw 3 was playing. amy was very eager to watch it.. too eager.. hehe.. it was a good movie.. very gory.. but a very good story and twists to the plot was well done.. amy emphasized it often.. we started to get worried about her.. i could just imagine her being jigsaw and torturing people but with a sweet smile..haha! after the movie, i finally went to bed, i couldn't help but smile.. it was a wonderful day.. ':)

i planned to go to keele and visit my sister for their open house but couldn't make it.. too expensive to get there just for the day.. sorry sis.. i promise to see you next time..

okay! on to the joke! it's copyrighted by amy amalina (since i have a lot of amys that i know, i shall refer to you as that.. hehe). the joke is soooo good, i had to hear it, i don't a dozen time in 2 days! ok.. here goes..

what is the difference between a mosquito and a fly?

give up?

a mosquito can fly but a fly can't mosquito!

uuggghhh... i know... i got 2 groans and a 3 rolled eyes after i told that joke to people.. sigh.. haha!
on a completely unrelated matter to today's post, i just wanna say, i'm relieved and very very happy.. details are undisclosed until further notice.. hehe.. ':)
i'm out.. thanks for a great weekend guys! i'll see you real soon!

i cringed..

nothing special to post.. just some random ramblings here..
after 3 very long years, the new evanescence album i finally out! 'the open door' was finally in my hands.. the first thing i did, i opened my laptop, connected my ipod to it ready to transfer the music immediately.. i popped in the cd.. had a listen to a track.. all of a sudden, i cringed.. i shook my head.. must be a bad song.. even so, i carried on listening till the end.. i relaxed myself. on to the next track.. i cringed again.. it was worse than the last.. after i finished listening to the whole album, i sat back and i swear i think i my eyes started to tear up.. except for a song or two, the whole album did not even give a light tug to my attention. not like the first album.. every single song i hear, i loved instantly. what the heck happened?
then, i realised that i wasn't using any proper sound amplifier.. just the speakers on my laptop. it won't do any justice to any song i play on it.. so, i composed myself and blamed it on the speakers.. so, i grabbed my headphones.. everything sounds awesome in it..
i took a deep breath and played the tracks again.. a huge improvement. even though the songs sounds better, it still didn't make me fall in love with all of them.. they sound so gothic now and most of the tracks sounds so out of tune in some parts of it..

the songs that i predict becoming their singles:
weight of the world
lithium
all that i'm living for
like you

if it was their last album, i would have a hard time picking.. ':s

while on the subject of good albums, there's an album i really absolutely love right now. hoobastank's 'every man for himself'. a huge joy to listen to from beginning till the end.. listen to it folks!

the little cute shy lion

hello everyone. everytime i post, i seem to start off by apologising for not updating so often. and today's post is no exception. ':) sorry for not posting. it's been a hectic week with exams and stuff.. but for now, i can rest a tad bit cause my next exam is next week..so, last weekend, i unwound by going to my favourite place - london brunei hall! hehe. it seems that i go there almost all the time.. well, too much i think cause a few of the new people there thought i was actually a PR there! haha!

on saturday, the brunei hall people organised a charity sale. it was like a garage sale with some of the money going to charity. food was also sold there, which was the main reason for my london visit that time.. hehe. it was a very fun day. and my most favourite part was the face painting! kids come and can get their face painted for just 50p. haha! it wasn't like a professional work by a hollywood make-up artist though but the kids were still happy with the outcome. and the ones that didn't (believe me, there were some.. haha!) we just gave them some stickers and candy and they were happy as a clam! hehe.

my most favourite customer was this really really cute 3-year-old kid! she was soooo quite and really shy. didn't smile or even say anything. when we were painting her face she kept moving and holding her mommy. when we asked why, she said the paint brushes tickles! awwww... when we finally finished, it was so awesome. we did a decent job but that wasn't the rewarding part. it was when she looked herself in the mirror. she had a huge smile on her face! awwwww...

other things that were happening that day:

there was a 'zakat booth' for people to pay their zakat. and there was an London Brunei Student Society (LBSS) registration booth. it's a society that organises functions and activities of major events for the other students. i would join but seeing that i'm in southampton, i wouldn't be able to contribute that much. but they noticed that every time that i come over, i helped them out. so, they decided to make me a member anyway! haha! so yes, i'm in LBSS now and will be an usher in the upcoming raya celebration in london! ':)

thanks for the great weekend guys!

a great weekend! too bad it ended..

hello everyone? how are you? good? how are things? swell? ok, enough about you! i had an absolutely fantastic weekend! ':) as you all know, i went to the all american rejects (AAR) concert on friday! it was just simply amazing! first of all, let me just say, last week was one of the most horrible week i have ever had.. if you're expecting for a detailed explanation, forget it.. it happened and there's nothing i can do about it.. i'll just deal with it in the future.. so for now, i want to forget all about it.. if there is such a thing as yin and yang and the balance of the universe and stuff, i guess my horrible week and the concert were of equal intensity! AAR made my bad week worth it - and more!

anyway, on to the story of my most fab weeked!
as soon as class ended on friday noon, i just changed and went straight to the bus station. i wanted to come as early as i could. even though the concert starts at 7pm, from my past gig-going experience, it's never too early to que up for a concert. went on the 2pm train and i arrived in london in 1 hour and 30min! that's an all time record, i might add.. sigh.. stupid me, i broke my own rules.. waited for 5pm to go.. i was in brixton an hour and a half early but the line was already very long.. obviously, i wasn't the only biggest fan.

there i was, waiting in line alone.. (which btw, i have absolutely no idea what the big deal is about going alone to a concert.. people actually pitied me?! ':s watch out for a future post on this) anway, there i was in the que, listening to AAR while i opened my fasting, when suddenly tyson ritter pops out from a window above! the crowd went crazy as he juggled an orange and a couple of apples. then he threw them to the crowd! that was cool.. after what felt like forever standing on the same spot, the line finally moved at 7pm. some people were buying the merchandises already, but i went past it and headed straight to the hall. luckily there wasn't a lot of people yet so i rushed to the front. i was 3 people behind the stage! i stood my ground and guarded my position. 30 long minutes later, the lights went out, the crowd goes wild! but their screams were wasted.. the show started with a special guest band.. and they were on stage for a very long 45min! and we didn't get just one guest.. oh no.. we got two! both were alien to me.. but their songs were nice..

finally... the last unknown band went off stage.. the crew made their final stage preparation. the lights went out. loud screams filled the huge room. music was heard.. coloured lights slowly luminated the stage.. AAR's show officially started! i can't even describe it in words how amazing it was.. you had to be there to feel the energy they gave out in their performance.. well, here's the next best thing.. i shot a couple of decent videos.. advance apologies for the constant movement.. it's hard not to jump around in a concert, you know.. hehe. so, crank up the volume and enjoy..

dance inside

it ends tonight

move along

the video doesn't do them justice.. you had to be there to know the feeling.. like i said, over and over again, it was simply amazing.. ':) oh yes, sorry for the screwy part of move along.. some jerk, wanted to be carried forward.. you can see him in the video.. ugghh..
photos on the concert coming up.. these were the only nice shots i could get.

should've come earlier.. much earlier..

AAR rocking down the house!

tyson & chris doing what they do best!

the all american rejects giving out their energy

so, that was my weekend.. a truly unforgetable memory.. as of today, i'm a bigger fan of them. i'm still trying to get over the fantastic feeling.. but somehow, i think it'll take me a while to get over.. a very long while.. ':)

a quick birthday shout out to syai! happy birthday syai! have a good one.. miss ya loads!
